Cyber City by SeanNash Cyber City by SeanNash
I watched a couple of environment art tutorials this morning and challenged myself to try something new. I love sci fi city's and always admire environment art so thought I'd give it a go. I wanted to create a kinda dingy part of a Cyber City, With gloomy colors I wanted to try and create an atmosphere. With plenty of lights and detail I found doing this a lot of fun as I'm used to creating characters usually, I didn't wanna go overboard with people but just added some to create that feeling that the city is alive.

I used Corel Painter 12 - And Corel Photoshop Pro X5

Hi :) I really love your artwork here. I'm curating a blog themed around cyperpunk for a postgrad project and would like to link your image to my blog. The conditions of the project are that all media must adhere to strict copyright, so I would love it if you could give me permission to use the image. I will be able to link back to your deviantart profile and will credit you as the artist. Cheers. Tim

Hello Mr. Nash. As usual, you've done an exemplary job on this. The colours portray the melancholy mood you're looking for, and the perspective is good. If you don't mind, I have a few suggestions to improve this. The first thing I noticed is the white lines around everything in the piece. If you are looking to show a light source or highlight individual buildings, I would use a different colour. Maybe a brown or blue or maybe yellow, because using white takes away from the gloom of the picture. Another suggestion would be to either change or remove the car. It like like a 1950s model car, and in a futuristic piece it doesn't fit too well. I would maybe spruce it up to make it more modern, but also put a few rust spots to make it look well used. Possibly even a bullet hole or two, if you're going for a slums look. But overall, you have done a great job with colour and setting and have achieved what you described. Kudos. Also, if I may bother you to do so, can you post a link to some of the tutorials you used for this?

Ah thank you for your comment and thoughts. Yeah as I said its kinda my first big environment piece. So I think I've learned what I can from doing it, so hopefully my next piece will be better with lighting and details and color. The 1950's car originally was a bit more cyber looking, but then I wanted it to feel as though this part of town was so old, and the cyber city was built on top of an old hotel almost like a 1950's cyber city, I wanted to give a big twist on it as there is so many pieces with cyber cars and stuff. But like I said i'll take what I've learned and hopefully improve next time. Thank you for taking the time to get back to me with your thought, I appreciate it very much :aww:
